# French Express Entry Draw on October 16th, 2026: Who Qualified and What to Do Now

The French Express Entry draw on October 16, 2026 was round #450, a category round for French-language proficiency. It was the first French draw in 8 weeks, and it was open only to candidates with NCLC 7 or higher in all four French skills.

You needed NCLC 7 in every single skill. If you were one level short in even one, say NCLC 6 in speaking, your CRS score didn't matter for this round. Among everyone who cleared NCLC 7 in all four, IRCC sorted people by CRS score and invited the top group.

What the French Express Entry draw of October 16, 2026 announced

IRCC held round #450 in the French-language proficiency category on October 16th, 2026. The official invitation count and the lowest score invited are published on IRCC's Express Entry rounds page (opens in a new tab), along with every earlier French round, so you can compare your own score with each one.

IRCC holds Express Entry rounds about every 2 weeks. A category round works differently: the Minister sets the category to meet a specific economic goal.

French rounds have no fixed rhythm. When IRCC already invites enough top-ranking French speakers through general or program-specific rounds, it may not need a category round, so a long gap between French draws isn't unusual.

Who could be invited in the French Express Entry draw?

Only candidates with French test results of at least NCLC 7 in all four abilities could be invited: listening, reading, speaking and writing. They also had to meet the Express Entry minimums and be eligible for one of the 3 programs: Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades or Canadian Experience Class.

Among eligible candidates, IRCC ranks people by CRS score and invites the highest ones, as set out on the category-based selection page (opens in a new tab). The NCLC rule comes first, then the score.

A worked example

Say you have NCLC 8 in reading, listening and writing, but NCLC 6 in speaking. You weren't eligible for this round, whatever your CRS score.

One skill under 7 keeps you out, so look at each skill on its own, never your average. The TEF Canada score to NCLC conversion chart shows where each section crosses the line.

The French points inside your CRS score

Strong French can add up to 50 extra CRS points to your profile. Your English result decides whether you get 25 or the full 50, according to IRCC's CRS criteria page (opens in a new tab), checked in October 2026.

What to do now if you received an invitation

You have 60 days from your invitation to submit your application for permanent residence, so the clock is already running. Start with your French test result, because it has a date rule that catches people out.

Your TEF Canada or TCF Canada results must be less than 2 years old both when you complete your profile and when you submit your PR application. Both tests are on IRCC's list of approved language tests for Express Entry (opens in a new tab).

Your checks before you submit

  1. Look at the date on your test result. It has to be valid on the day you submit, not only on the day you were invited.
  2. Compare every score in your profile with your result sheet, skill by skill.
  3. Read the instructions for round #450 on IRCC's rounds page, since every requirement of that round applies to you.
  4. Count back from day 60 and set your own deadline a week earlier.

A small mismatch between your profile and your result sheet is easy to make and stressful to fix later. Take a quiet evening for step 2.

If something about your own file is unclear, talk to a licensed consultant on the official CICC register. They can look at your case in detail.

What to do now if you weren't invited

Check your four NCLC scores first, because the French category is closed to anyone below NCLC 7 in a single skill. If all four are at 7 or higher, keep your profile current and your test valid.

The November 3 changes and the pause in rounds

From November 3, 2026, IRCC changes how CRS points are given for Canadian work experience and valid job offers, and removes the LMIA requirement for all job offers. Recalculating profiles could take up to two weeks, and IRCC will pause invitation rounds during that time.

Do you hold a valid job offer without an LMIA that isn't in your profile yet? IRCC advises you to update your profile, as explained on the same CRS criteria page.

If you're below NCLC 7 in one skill

Often the gap is one stubborn section, such as speaking or writing. That's good news: one skill is much easier to fix than four.
