In the capital, French opens two doors at once

Your PR file and your job search both reward French here: your federal score goes up, and bilingual positions open.

Express Entry

Up to 50 more points

NCLC 7 in all four French skills adds 50 points to your Express Entry score when your English is CLB 5 or higher, or 25 when it is lower. IRCC also invites French speakers in draws of their own.

Federal jobs

Bilingual positions test your French

In the federal public service, a bilingual position sets a level in reading, writing and oral interaction, from A to C, and candidates are tested. The French you build for the TEF or TCF is the base for those tests.

OINP

A job offer plus two languages

With a job offer in Ontario, the Workforce Priority stream scores English and French together: CLB 6 or higher in both gives 10 points instead of 5. The province's French-only stream is closed.

The best institution to learn french in a most natural way. My tutor was Anne, she is the best. Very friendly, always there for us to help to improve a lot. I really had lot of fun in her class as well.

Salut! I found French quite difficult, and I knew almost nothing about it. But our teacher are always patient with us and encourage us to learn little by little. Our teacher remind us that learning French is a process, and it takes time, practice, and patience. I have gone from knowing almost nothing to knowing something. I know that I still have a lot to learn, but I am motivated to continue and improve everyday. Merci beaucoup Anne, pour ta patience, ton soutien et tes encouragements. Je suis vraiment heureux d’ avoir appris le francais avec toi:-)

I’m loving the course, it’s very well paced - not too fast, not too slow - and the material is really good. My teacher, Camille, is amazing and I’m sure so are the others.

This meet and greet convinced me to take a 6 month course! Every one is very accommodating and answered all my questions about learning French for immigration purposes 😊 I can’t wait to get started 🥳

Two evenings a week, live from anywhere in Ottawa

Small online groups with a native teacher, at times that start after an office day. Here is what a week looks like.

Live on Zoom, after work

Classes run in the evening on Eastern time, in small groups where everyone speaks. Your teacher corrects you as you go.

Native teachers from France and Québec

All 22 of our teachers follow one curriculum, so an Ottawa group learns exactly what every other group learns that week.

A missed class is not a lost week

Live classes are not recorded, but the self-study lessons in your program cover the same material before your next evening.

The TEF or TCF in Ottawa, when you are ready

You sit the exam near the end of your program, when your teacher says you are ready. Ottawa has two official centres:

Applying for a federal job? Your French will be tested

In the federal public service, each bilingual position sets a level in reading, writing and oral interaction, from A (beginner) to C (advanced). For an imperative appointment, you must reach that level before you start.

Our SLE preparation covers all three parts, in private or semi-private classes with native teachers, and the French you build for the TEF or TCF counts there too.

For most Express Entry candidates, yes. Strong French adds up to 50 points and opens draws held only for French speakers. In Ottawa it also counts at work, where bilingual federal positions test it.
